Introducing the Wairere Boulders - Northland’s best-kept secret

Wairere Boulders, one of the best bouldering areas in the North Island, can finally be publicised after a change of ownership.

Wairere Boulders is a privately owned farm and nature reserve located a few hours north of Auckland, with the basalt boulders on this farm offering some of the best bouldering in the North Island. With more than 50 established routes from V0 to V9, Wairere Boulders is worth a few weekends away.

While the boulders have been established for some time now, the previous owner was not comfortable sharing the area with the public online. However, the land has recently been sold and ACAT has spoken with the new landowners and confirmed they are happy to see climbers enjoy the area.

Access to the Wairere Boulders is available for $15 per person per day. Camping is also available at a cost of $10 per adult, with kids under 16 able to camp for free. See the Wairere Boulders website for detailed access, camping and route information.
